18 MONTH OLD BEATEN SO BADLY HE MAY NEED TO HAVE HIS ARM AMPUTATED

11Albuquerque police are investigating what they call one of the worst child abuse cases they have ever seen.
Police said Stephanie Lecero, 22, and Billy Sosa, 23, were baby-sitting her nephews.  Sosa was playing with the 18-month old baby boy when he became angry that the young boy was touching his face (Uhhhh, WHAT?), this would be the moment where Billy Sosa broke the little boys arm.  Let’s be clear here – he broke the child’s arm so severely – that doctors say it may need to be amputated.  Imagine the violence and force it would take to break a toddler’s arm so badly it would be beyond repair.  As if this was not enough, Sosa took off his chain necklace and strangled the little boy with it until he almost passed out.

I will be honest – imagining the horror, fear and pain this child endured makes my stomach turn.  It has brought me to tears a few times, and I can’t help but looking at my baby boy and wondering – how could anyone ever hurt such a precious and innocent baby?  Another thing I can’t understand, is how this little boy’s aunt witnessed the beating and did not intervene.
After the boy’s parents picked him up, they noticed injuries and took him to the hospital. When police responded to the report of possible child abuse called in by the Presbyterian Hospital, the officer found the baby boy suffering from injuries to his left arm and bruising to his upper and lower legs and torso.

The child also had bruising on his head with minor scratches and a bruise on the bridge of his nose.  A physician told police the injuries appeared to be a result of abuse.  The complaint quotes the 3-year-old as saying Sosa and Lucero were responsible for his brother’s injuries.
William Roseman, with Albuquerque police, said, “It’s lucky this kid’s alive. He has severe injuries and shows signs of strangulation in his eyes. It’s going to take a long time for this child to recover from these injuries. These are not minor injuries this child received.”
Sosa and Lucero are each charged with one count of child abuse. Bond for each of them was set at $24,000.  Police said the couple could also be charged with attempted murder.
