Cedrika Provencher was last seen on July 31, 2007, riding her bike around her neighborhood, looking for a small black dog.  The Provencher’s don’t own a dog.  Her bike and bike helmet were later found abandoned behind a garbage dumpster, 2 km from where she was last seen.

It was quickly learnt that the day previous to Cedrika’s disappearance, other neighborhood children were approached by a white man, aged 30 – 60, on a bike, asking them to help him find a lost dog.  The man offered one 10 year old girl $40 to help him, then upped the offer to $165, luckily, the little girl’s father quickly intervened and put a stop to it.  It quickly became clear that the same man that approached the young girl, in all likelihood is the same man responsible for Cedrika’s disappearance.

The community rallied around Cedrika’s family and put forth a massive search effort, combing the area, posting fliers and putting up a billboard with the little girl’s picture.  Police set up road blocks, questioning drivers in the area, hoping to find something that they may have seen but didn’t realize was important.

Unfortunately the little girl was never found despite the efforts, and Cedrika remains missing to this day.

Police did turn up one person of interest, and it seems that he may be worth a good looking into.  Claude Larouche had been questioned early on in Cedrika’s disappearance but was ruled out.  It wasn’t until a witness who worked in a bar near where Cedrika lives, stated she had seen Larouche in the area when Cedrika went missing.  Larouche’s history is a scary one, and it would appear that this man could easily be involved in Cedrika’s disappearance.  In 2005, Larouche, received a 40 month sentence for the attempted abduction of a little girl in Montreal.  He served 27 months of his sentence and was released not long before Cedrika was abducted.  He also has a prior conviction for sexual aggression in Trois-Rivieres.

When Cedrika first went missing, lawyer Guy Bertrand, offered a reward of $170,000.00 for any information leading to the recovery of Cedrika.  He also worked for free for a time following tips in Cedrika’s case, but after more than 2 years since the little girl went missing, he had to remove the award and move on to work on more cases.  As the years pass, the hope of finding her alive diminishes, but the family and the community remain vigilant, hoping that they will see the day when Cedrika is brought home.
