DREW DREES – RECOVERED!
Drew has been recovered! Thank you to all of those who followed his case and helped to bring him home safely.
WELCOME HOME DREW!
Drew’s homecoming has been long awaited. 8 YEARS. When Drew’s mother kidnapped him and brought him to India, he was a toddler, this July he returned home and stepped into his father’s arms, a young man.
After Padmashini abducted Drew, Dean hired a private investigator who worked with the FBI and US State Department to locate the pair. This proved to be exceptionally difficult as Padmashini and Drew moved frequently, living in India, England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Indonesia and Thailand amongst others. “Because of her frequent moving, I was unable to make contact with my son,” said Dean. However in the months before the two were reunited, Drew and Dean were able to speak over FaceBook, starting to catch up on all the time taken from them.
Complicating matters is the fact that India is not a signatory to the Hague Convention, and in fact does not often consider a parent fleeing from America with their child to India a crime at all. India does not recognize American court and custody orders and often considered the left behind parent’s actions to reunite with their child as breaking the law.
Padmashini’s location had been monitored in India and when investigators learned that she planned to travel back to the United States, they flew into action. Immediately after Padmashini stepped off the plane, she was arrested and taken into police custody. Drew’s father, Dean, was at the airport to reunite with and take custody of his son. The reunion was a warm one, Drew clinging to his father telling him how much he had missed him. Dean himself could not hide his elation.
Since Drew’s abduction, Dean has remarried and has stepchildren. Drew by all counts is doing really well and enjoying being with his family. The National Center For Missing and Exploited Children’s Family Advocacy Division has worked to help provide Drew with the smoothest transition in coming home.
Padmashini was arrested on a charge of interference with child custody and is being held on an immigration hold. Her bond was set at $10,000.
