Luke Turner Reunited With Mother, Brandi

Luke Turner Reunited With Mother, Brandi

On March 22, 2013, the nightmare Brandy Turner had been living since her son, Luke disappeared, came to an end.  Luke was located by authorities at his paternal grandparents’ home in Akron, Washington County, Colorado.

When Luke went missing, he had just begun talking, when he was returned home, the little boy was talking about everything and anything.  Watching her son must have brought her more peace and happiness than anyone ever thought possible, but I can also imagine a small part of Brandy was sad for having missed seeing her son grow up over the last 9 months.

Luke’s father, Monty Turner, kidnapped the little boy in July of 2012, and is currently not facing any criminal charges with Luke’s abduction.  Brandy shares her thought that the law does not sufficiently protect children and parents in cases of parental kidnapping, I couldn’t agree more.  It’s time for everyone to stand up and demand that this change.  This man kept a little boy away from his mother for 9 months, and there is no good reason for why he has not been charged with doing so.  Unfortunately the hands of the Longmont police are tied in the matter.  The detectives did everything they could to locate Luke and bring him home, working tirelessly, and should be considered true heros for their dedication.  Three deputies served a search warrant on Monty Turner’s parents’ farm, searching for about 2 hours before discovering Luke and his father hiding under carpet padding in a box truck.  As police searched the property, Brandy sat near the phone waiting, and hoping for the call that her son had been found.  She did not have to wait long for that call.  She immediately drove to pick up her son, who was delighted to see his mother, and returned home with Luke to celebrate the belated Christmas and birthday celebrations he had missed.

Luke seemed unfazed by all that happened surrounding him.  He slept through his first night home with no problems, he has not cried, or displayed any anxiety about everything that happened.  He did ask if he would see his father, and that is a question Brandy knew she would have to answer at some point, preparing herself to guide her son gently through the transition, the transition that turned out to be easier and shorter than anyone could have imagined.  Brandy stated that before Luke’s abduction, his father was his hero, and can’t imagine that Luke’s thoughts on his father would have changed.  She believes Turner abducted their son out of fears that she would take Luke and leave the state with him, which she never even remotely had plans to do.  Brandy has asked the courts to make a temporary restraining order against Turner permanent and has stated that the future of the family’s relationship will be determined through divorce and custody proceedings.

Regardless of the outcome of these proceedings, the most important thing remains, that Luke is at home, safe and loved by a mother that stopped at nothing to bring her baby boy home.
