2 YEAR OLD JOILEEN GARCIA DIED AFTER AMANDA SORENSON FORCE FED HER CHILI POWDER
Joileen Garcia was a beautiful 2 year old who had the world laid out in front of her. She still had her innocence, and after only 2 years of being in this world, she was horrifically torn from it. Terrible twos is a term that stems from a very realistic stage in a child’s life. They are just starting to navigate this world with curiosity and wonder. They are now walking and talking, and they have an insatiable thirst for discovering new things each and every day.
They get themselves into some situations that causes their parents to just stop and laugh, because when you find your kitchen and toddler covered in flour, there is nothing else to do but laugh. It is incredible to watch these tiny little people learn and retain information at a rate that will never again be matched in their lifetime. Through all of this, we as parents need to begin setting boundaries, to begin teaching our children what is right and wrong.
Nerves will be frayed, and patience tested. There are going to be tantrums, every day, and there is going to be tears. The naughty chair or time out step is going to be used a countless number of times. These children do need discipline, however, that discipline can be kind, gentle, reassuring and firm. Never would I imagine disciplining my 2 year old by forcing them to eat chili powder … and that is exactly what Joileen was forced to do.
Joileen’s father’s girlfriend, Amanda Sorenson, 21, force fed the little girl chili powder as punishment. Punishment for what, is not known. Shortly after enduring this torturous punishment, Joileen began to have seizures, before she ultimately quit breathing. It was only then that a 911 call was placed and ambulances sent to Joileen’s home. The little girl was not able to hold on for long, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The cause of death was a seizure, likely induced by asphyxiation, with chili powder, as it can cause the airways and lungs to swell, cutting of the baby’s ability to breathe.
Joileen’s mother and stepfather, Manuel Lopez, have been devastated by Joileen’s murder. Lopez stated “Early in the morning, she would always jump into bed with us. She went with us everywhere. Bright kid, smart, intelligent, running around … she loved animals and horses.”
Sorenson was arrested and is being held on $1,000,000.00 bail, charged with one count of first degree murder, and one count of child abuse causing death. If convicted, she can face 25 years to life in prison. I don’t know about you, but I think justice would be better served if Sorenson was fed chili powder until she had a seizure and died. Maybe if we started treating these disgusting excuses for human beings for exactly what they are, their fellow monsters may think twice before harming a child, even if for no other reason than selfishly not wanting to endure the abuse they were about to inflict.
There is no word as to what role Joileen’s father played in all of this, but I will keep searching for more information and update as soon as I have uncovered more.
