TWO NAKED CHILDREN FOUND LIVING AMONGST FECES AND FILTH WITH ONLY A JAR OF PICKLES TO EAT
Raising children can be – no wait – absolutely is a messy task. Children get into anything and everything. They don’t always put their clothes in the laundry basket, they sometimes run through the house with wet shoes, they generally aren’t happy until every toy they own is scattered on the living room floor. They aren’t the cleanest eaters when they are little, and yes spaghetti sticks to walls. They love to ‘help’ doing the dishes, but we all know all they want is to grow a bubble beard. When my sons were potty training, well, aim is something that needs to be perfected, so the bathroom floor gets bleached a few times a day (thank God for Cheerios in the toilet creating a little bulls eye, they saved me a ton of cash on bleach!). My youngest son used to leave me ‘snacks’ in my purse. Imagine going to pay for groceries and pulling out a half eaten hot dog (you can imagine the look I got from the cashier!). Raising children is not clean, and sometimes you can get a little behind on laundry, dishes aren’t always done after every meal, and the list goes on. However in all of this we do keep our homes tidy, lived in yes, but tidy. It is not impossible to raise your children in a clean home, a home which is not putting their health at risk. Unfortunately, two young children living in Kelso, Washington, were found to be living in a home where the conditions weren’t fit for a rat. These parents seemed to have gone above and beyond in creating a cesspool in their home.
The children, a 2 year old girl, and a 7 year old boy, were removed from their mother’s, Nicole Jacobs, home after their father contacted police alleging the children were being neglected, following a fight he had with Jacobs. What the officers found when they arrived is not something they will ever forget. The two innocent children were found naked, living in squalor amongst large amounts of feces, garbage and rotted food. They found dirty clothes, dirty dishes caked with rotted food, virtually every inch of the house was covered in filth. The 2 year old girl was running around amongst all the feces, while the 7 year old boy was sleeping in a chair because he did not have a bed. When Jacobs was confronted, it was quickly clear that she was extremely intoxicated. The children were taken into CPS care, and their mother stated she could not find shoes, socks or clothing among the mess.
With the children removed from the home and safe, investigators were able to walk through the home to determine the extent of the filth. In the bathroom, they found a backed up toilet with weeks of accumulated feces in the bathtub, on the floors, and on the walls, which the children had walked through and tracked into every room in the house. One officer described the home as “a disgusting mess”, while a reporter stated that the pungent odor of the home could be smelled from the street. During the investigation of the home, police determined the only food in the house was a jug of milk and a jar of pickles. When officers had initially arrived, one of the children had repeatedly told officers that they were hungry.
The children’s father, Danny Wannamaker, who made the original call, was arrested for fourth degree domestic assault after police noticed Jacobs had a bruise above her eye. Wannamaker admitted that the couple had an argument earlier over $40 in cash, Jacobs had accused Wannamaker of stealing the money for heroin. No further charges have been laid, but this could change pending an investigation by CPS. (Do they really need to investigate – did the feces filled home and naked children not tip them off??? How about the fight over money for heroin???) Maybe the already underway investigation CPS had opened into the conditions of the home prior to the children being removed wasn’t enough of a reason to charge these disgusting excuses for parents. Jacobs had been avoiding CPS for weeks after it was reported to them that the toilet was broken in the home. I don’t know what more evidence they need to charge Jacobs and Wannamaker for child neglect … isn’t it bad enough already?? How about the fact that the house has since been condemned?? CONDEMNED! Yet an ‘investigation’ by CPS needs to be done. The authorities in this case need to give their heads a good shake. When will these people come to realize that by not holding parents like this accountable for their actions, or inactions for that matter, that children in this situation will only continue to be neglected and forced to live in horrific conditions? I just don’t see why charges have not been laid any what the hell kind of evidence are they looking for to press charges. It’s time that someone began to think of the children first, and time that they take steps to protect these children.
