DAPHNE WEBB – FATHER COMMITS SUICIDE – ENDANGERED MISSING July 10, 2013 – USMCC000328LTWH – UPDATED 05.06.2014
Date of Birth: October 10, 2011
Height: 2’0” Weight: 30 lbs
Hair: Brown Eyes: Brown
Missing: July 10, 2013 From: Oakland, CA
On July 10, 2013, John Anthony Webb placed a 911 call reporting that his 21 month old daughter, Daphne Webb, had been abducted. Webb had Daphne and his mother, 87, with him when he drove to the store. When he came out of the store 2 minutes later, Daphne was gone. Webb’s mother has dementia and was unable to help police in their investigation.
Webb was arrested for child endangerment, however the DA decided against pressing charges. Authorities are saying that Webb is not a suspect in his daughter’s disappearance. Police have confirmed that at least one witness saw a woman carrying a girl matching Daphne’s description near the store around the time of her disappearance. The woman is described as black or Hispanic, between the ages of 30 – 40, with long black hair, wearing blue jeans and a light colored top.
Oakland police are trying to determine when the last time anyone besides her father had seen Daphne alive. It is believed to be June 27, 2013, 12 days before she was reported missing. Webb claims that he is a homebody and never goes anywhere which is why no one else had seen Daphne in the weeks before her disappearance.
Webb is described by neighbours as a great man and father. He has two older daughters, whom he trained in martial arts when they were young. Webb would help those in need out, giving away food, clothing and bicycles. Neighbors also say that Webb took very good care of his mother.
On the flip side, the more information that comes out surrounding Daphne’s mother, the worse it looks. This little girl was put in harm’s way through the negligence of her mother on at least one documented time in the past, and I am sure there are many more times that authorities just simply weren’t there. In April of 2013, Daphne’s mother, Kiana Davis, was convicted of child endangerment and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, after police found her passed out behind the wheel of a parked car with Daphne in the back seat. Davis admitted to police that she had been drinking and abusing Vicodin before getting in the car with the baby girl. As part of her conviction, she is only able to visit Daphne occasionally, must attend anger management courses, and must attend 26 parenting courses among other stipulations.
Dozens of police officers, FBI agents and cadaver dogs have been searching for Daphne, covering Webb’s Oakland home, a nearby park and a waterway Daphne frequented with her family. Hundreds of fliers with the baby girl’s photo have been handed out and posted around the neighbourhood where Daphne disappeared.
A little over a week after Daphne was reported missing, friends and family held a candlelight vigil for the baby girl at the scene of Daphne’s disappearance. The vigil is the second public event hosted by the family. Davis sang a song for her missing daughter at the vigil.
Kevin Davis, Daphne’s grandfather, spoke at a news conference asking for the public’s help to find his granddaughter. “These past few days have been the worst nightmare of any parent and for me as Baby Daphne’s grandfather,” Kevin Davis told reporters. “This is a troubling and deeply anxious time. As you can see Kiana and Baby Daphne have a large and loving family which is committed to doing everything in our power to bring my granddaughter home. We have also reached out to Baby Daphne’s father, John Webb, and we look forward to his involvement and cooperation in our efforts for the safe return of Baby Daphne.”
As the days pass and the questions surrounding Daphne’s disappearance remain unanswered, Daphne’s maternal side of the family continues to ensure that Daphne remains in the public eye. A love walk was organized by the family, and it was during the walk when Daphne’s grandfather began to voice his concerns over what role Daphne’s father played in her disappearance. The Davis family supported Webb up until now, not publicly questioning his involvement. However, as another community event for Daphne goes by with Webb failing yet again to attend, the family is forced to redirect their thinking. `Something is fishy here.“ was all Kevin Davis would say, but echo`s what the majority of people are thinking. Webb`s notable absence from any event being held for his daughter, his lack of communication with the media, and lack of communication with the Davis family, just doesn`t add up.
We will continue to follow the story of Daphne until she is brought home, and we are now reaching a turning point where we need to start asking some hard questions, and start getting some hard answers. This questioning, clearly needs to begin with Webb.
30 days after Daphne disappeared, and her family is passing out flyers of the missing baby girl. There is still no indication of what happened to Daphne and authorities are working hard to find answers and locate her.
The family is doing all they can to keep the spotlight on Daphne, and have not given up hope that the baby girl will be home soon.
August 24, 2013 – A massive search effort was launched today to locate Daphne. Authorities received new information, and have assembled a team of 50 people to search an open space in Oakland, the exact location will not be released yet. Searchers will be using cadaver dogs and specialized equipment to aid them in their search.
A reward of $20,000.00 is being offered for any information leading to the recovery of Daphne.
Police have done a complete 180 and are now calling John Webb a “person of interest” in his daughter’s disappearance. Sadly, it looks as if what most have feared all along, may be exactly what happened.
DAPHNE WEBB’S FATHER, JOHN WEBB, COMMITS SUICIDE
John Webb was discovered on Friday May 2, 2014 by his adult daughter in his Greenridge home. He had taken his own life, but had not left any suicide note or last wishes. The exact cause of death has not been confirmed, as there seems to be no signs of trauma to the body and no evidence of foul play. The autopsy is being conducted and toxicology test will be run, however it can take anywhere from 60 – 90 days to receive the results of these tests.
Webb was the only person of interest in Daphne’s disappearance, so for me this really almost validates the belief that Webb had something to do with the disappearance of his little girl.
Daphne’s mother, Kiana Davis-Webb, gave birth to a healthy baby girl in January, the baby which she learned she was expecting a week after Daphne went missing. The family is holding out hope that this new angel in their lives will have the opportunity to meet her big sister, a big sister which would be very proud of her I am sure.
