Angelique James

Date of Birth: October 2, 1992

Black Female

Height: 3’6”     Weight: 40 lbs

Hair: Black     Eyes: Brown

Missing: February 15, 1997     From: Los Angeles, CA

Distinguishing Features: Angelique has scars on the top of one of her feet.  She has a fracture in her LEFT arm visible with an X-Ray.  Angelique was also born with one her legs and arms shorter than the other.

Angelique was last seen in her family’s home.  Circumstances surrounding her disappearance are very vague, and it is not known what may have or did happen to the baby girl.  It is said the DCFS was involved with the family, with 3 of Angelique’s sisters already taken into state custody, and this was how Angelique’s disappearance was discovered, although it was not discovered for weeks, and possible months after the baby girl initially disappeared.  When authorities asked Angelique’s mother, Shirley Ann James, where her daughter was, Shirley refused to cooperate with them.  In November of 1997, 9 months after Angelique disappeared, Shirley was arrested for failing to produce Angelique when the authorities demanded her to do so.  Unknown circumstances ended with Shirley being charged for Angelique’s presumed murder, along with 3 counts of child abuse and 2 counts of corporal injury to a child.  Authorities stated they believed Angelique had been murdered somewhere between December 15, 1996 and March 1, 1997.

Shirley has seven other children in addition to Angelique.  One of Shirley’s daughters was nine months old when she died in 1992, apparently from SIDS.  After Angelique disappeared, the nine month old baby girl’s death was reviewed by homicide detectives, however no additional charges were ever filed.  In late 1997, authorities used cadaver dogs to search the family yard in an attempt to recover Angelique.  The dogs did trace her scent in the area, but the searched failed to yield any evidence related to Angelique’s disappearance.

In January of 1998, Shirley pleaded not guilty to all charges.  Shirley later plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter in Angelique’s case and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.  The DA stated that the plea deal was arranged to avoid the chance of an acquittal on murder charges due to a lack of evidence.  Angelique’s body has never been recovered.
