JACKSON FARREY – PARENTS TRIAL DATES SET ~ UPDATED 02.22.2014
UPDATE February 22, 2014
TRIAL DATES SET
Jackson’s parents, if you can call them that, have been scheduled to go to trial for their part in Jackson’s death at the end of the year. Jeffrey Farrey is charged with injury by omission and his trial has been scheduled for October of 2014. Jeffrey’s lawyer, Joe Spencer, has stated that he does not foresee any delays in the future.
Jenna Farrey is charged with injury to a child and her trial has been scheduled for December of 2014. Her lawyer, Joshua Herrera, has said that Jenna’s trial date will depend on if Jeffrey’s trial is on time.
We will keep you posted with any updates.
UPDATE: February 2, 2014
The autopsy reports for Jackson Farrey have been released, confirming that it was the body of the baby boy who was buried in a shallow grave in the desert. The report states that Jackson was buried in a soiled diaper and wrapped in a fleece blanket. Medical examiners were unable to determine a cause of death due to Jackson’s body being “severely decomposed with mummification and partial skeletonization of the skull”. The reports did indicate that Jackson may have been under-developed for his age, which coincides with the confirmed neglect of both Blake and Jackson in the past. Jenna has since been charged with felony injury to a child, according to the county’s website, and is being held on a $1.5 million bail.
UPDATE ~ JANUARY 1, 2014
It has now been a little over a month since Jackson’s body was recovered, and the story unraveling surrounding the Farrey family is only becoming more disturbing by the minute. When the Farrey’s were initially located in the Michigan motel, both Jenna and Jeffrey claimed that Jackson was staying with his grandparents, who all told police otherwise when they were contacted to confirm Jackson’s whereabouts. It has not taken long for the truth of Farrey’s characters to come to light, and I for one am just disgusted at what we are learning.
Jenna Farrey remains in jail on a probation violation charge without bond. That charge comes from Jenna pleading guilty to child abandonment and endangerment charges with intent to return which were filed in 2012 regarding the neglect of Blake. Jenna made a habit of leaving baby Blake at home alone for extended periods of time. On one occasion she was pulled over for speeding and when asked why she was speeding, she told officers that she had left a then 2-month old Blake at home, alone. A month later she decided to take a little road trip and left then 3-month old Blake at home for 7 ½ hours, alone. Only a week passed before she did it again, this time leaving Blake at home, alone, while she went off to the movies. She was sentenced to a mere 5 years probation, 200 hours of community service and a total of $962 in fines and costs.
She was also ordered to undergo an alcohol treatment program and not to leave El Paso County without the judge’s permission. It turns out that Jenna did have some very important questions to ask her attorney regarding her arrest – primarily what was going to happen to her car and person belongings. Nice touch mom. To date – no new charges have been filed against Jenna, but I am sure that will change quickly.
Court documents have now been released which state that Jeffrey told his father that Jackson choked to death and that he and Jenna then buried the baby’s body in New Mexico more than a month before Jackson’s body was discovered. This resulted in Jeffrey’s arrest for allegedly failing to provide medical attention for Jackson on October 27, 2013, resulting in the charge of intentionally, recklessly, or with criminal negligence, by act or unintentionally, knowingly, or recklessly by omission, causing serious bodily injury to a child. Jeffrey Farrey’s court date has been set for October 3, 2014. His attorney, Joe Spencer, claimed that Jeffrey was deployed in Afghanistan and had nothing to do with Jackson’s death. He also stated that Jeffrey was ‘distraught’ following his arrest and was placed on suicide watch. Spencer went to an even further low when he stated that Jeffrey was just as much a victim as Jackson. He actually stated that.
After calling Jenna manipulative, which may be true however does not make Jeffrey a victim like his murdered baby boy, Spencer stated “The issues that his wife, Jenna, has had with Child Protective Services were when he was halfway around the world protecting this country.” Make no mistake here folks, well the vast majority of those serving their country are kind, compassionate, incredible hero’s, that does not mean that they all deserve that title, and Jeffrey Farrey is one of the ones who does NOT deserve that title. To be honest, I don’t really care what Spencer has to say frankly, as there is NO excuse EVER for allowing the death of an innocent baby to occur, and then to cover that baby’s death up.
Medical examiners are continuing to investigate the exact cause of death for Jackson. It should also be noted that while it has not been ‘officially’ confirmed that the baby’s body is that of Jackson, authorities have no doubt that it is Jackson and are pursuing the case accordingly, holding those responsible for his death accountable.
As for Blake, he has since been brought back to El Paso from Michigan. Jeffrey’s attorney, Spencer, once again makes statements that his client “continues to express concern over Blake. Blake’s in the custody of CPS and he wants to have him with his family as soon as possible.” – sorry Spencer, we don’t hear those tiny violins playing. If Jeffrey is really so concerned for Blake, you think he would have also been concerned for Jackson – which he clearly was not.
A ‘little’ detail that Spencer also failed to provide was that when Blake was taken into CPS care – he was “grossly underweight”, and clearly was not being cared for by diligent, loving parents. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services have stated “Our primary concern will be the safety and welfare of this child. We’ll ensure he’s seeing a pediatrician and receiving any necessary therapy. As with any CPS foster care case, we will also be seeking appropriate relative placement.”
The bottom line here is simple. Jackson deserved better – he deserved to be safe and to be loved. If his death truly was caused by choking, then that little boy deserved to have medical attention, he deserved to be laid to rest in peace, not buried alone in the middle of the desert forgotten by the world.
JACKSON DESERVED BETTER.
I sadly woke up this morning to see the news that Jackson’s body has been recovered. The investigation remains ongoing, but we are receiving more details surrounding the case. The Farrey family was found in Escanaba, Michigan at the Eagle’s Nest Motel, less than a mile from Lake Michigan.
After Hidalgo found the alleged suicide note, and did not expect the Farrey’s to return, was allowed into the home to begin cleaning – I can’t imagine what evidence may have been lost in this carelessness. After the Farrey family was located, investigators began going through the rental home, but again, who knows what evidence has been destroyed.
It turns out that Jeffrey is being held on charges stemming from an Absent Without Leave charge from Fort Bliss, TX, and a charge of injury to a child by omission. His bail is set at $1.5 million. Jenna is also being held, however on charges stemming from a probation violation. Authorities say that more charges are pending.
Jackson’s remains were located, buried in the desert near Orogrande, NM, near McGregor Range and in an area commonly used for military training. They will be sent for an autopsy to determine the manner of death. There has been no word as to what led investigators to the area in search of Jackson’s remains.
Child Protective Services have released a statement regarding their investigation of the Farrey family which reads:
“Child Protective Services (CPS) is currently working an active investigation with law enforcement. The family’s 19 month old child is in the custody of the state of Michigan at this time. The Farrey family does have prior CPS history in Texas. CPS investigated allegations of neglectful supervision (leaving a young child at home) in June 2012, and continued working with the family through our Family Based Safety Services program until May 2013.”
More information will be released throughout the day, and I will keep you updated on any breaking news.
RIP Jackson, spread your angel wings and fly baby.

Missing: November 13, 2013 From: El Paso, TX
Jackson went missing with his mother Jenna, 20, father Jeffrey, 22, and older brother Blake, 19 months. The family was reported missing after one of the Farrey’s employers called to say they had not shown up at work. Jeffrey Farrey is a soldier stationed at Fort Bliss. Officers have said that when they arrived at the Farrey home, the home was empty and the family’s car and dog were also gone. They say that what they found at the home was “uncharacteristic” and led authorities to believe that the family’s lives could be in danger.
A former landlord, Octavio Hidalgo, of the Farrey’s stated that the couple had left behind a suicide note stating “that they are having financial problems and will take their lives, and that their bodies will be found soon” says Hildago. Authorities have said a note was found, but are not commenting on the accurateness of Hildago’s statement. Hidalgo has since refused to answer questions from the media.
Jenna, Jeffrey and Blake were all located at a motel in an undisclosed location days after being reported missing, however little Jackson remains missing.
Very little information is being released surrounding the Farrey family, Jackson’s disappearance and investigation due to what authorities are calling its ‘sensitive nature.’ We will keep everyone posted as more information begins to be released.
