JAXON COLEMAN – BEATEN BY HIS MOTHER’S BOYFRIEND, EXPECTED TO REMAIN IN VEGETATIVE STATE – CCA0162 – UPDATED 10.10.2014
JAXON COLEMAN BEATEN BY HIS MOTHER’S BOYFRIEND, EXPECTED TO REMAIN IN VEGETATIVE STATE
Austin Searles and Penny Hicks are the new additions to our list of deplorable human beings this week. The two are currently sitting behind bars after Hicks’ 2 year old son Jaxon was abused by her boyfriend, Searles.
Jaxon was brought to the hospital with bruising to his back, chest, genitals and thighs. Searles initially claimed that the little boy was injured in a four-wheeler accident the previous weekend and then fell in the bathtub hitting his head, causing his injuries. He states that he did not receive medical treatment for Jaxon for an extended period of time out of fear of police action. Call me crazy, but an innocent man would not even think about police action, let alone be concerned with it. Documents show that Searles later admitted to hitting Jaxon multiple times while caring for him.
Jaxon was found to be suffering from numerous injuries, with the most traumatic injury being a brain bleed. His condition was grim, and Jaxon was expected to die, or live forever in a permanent vegetative state. Medical staff immediately contacted police to report the brain injury consistent with child abuse. They were able to determine that Hicks was aware of the abuse, but did nothing to protect her son or to obtain medical attention for any of his injuries.
Searles has been charged with first degree assault and first degree criminal abuse. Hicks has been charged with first degree assault by complicity and first degree criminal abuse by complicity. Both have $250,000 cash bonds and both have entered not guilty pleas.
The wonderful news is that Jaxon pulled through and by all counts is doing well now. The family members caring for Jaxon seem to be genuine and sincere folks that really wanted to keep their privacy, hence the reason for so little information being released. What happened to Jaxon is deplorable – but he is in a loving home now and living life like any other little boy.
I would like to thank LTWH family member Megan Sanders for being Jaxon’s Angel Advocate. Megan, thank you for bringing this case to us giving us the opportunity to stand with you and fight for justice for Jaxon!
We will keep you all posted as new information is released.
